As of last night, Tuesday, November 13th the #wakecountyanimalcenter is at FULL CAPACITY. We have a really big shelter with 5 little critters, 147 cats, and 101 dogs up for adoption right now. Being a county shelter the #wakecountyanimalshelter cannot turn anyone away; they have to take the animal even if there is no open kennel. Worst of all is that it isn't just our shelter that is full, every surrounding county has been posting the same message for days: Our animals need YOUR help! So, how can YOU, our community, support us? Here are a few easy ways (read the rest of this post in the comments!)1. Adopt - If you are looking for a new pet look at the shelter first. If you don't see a match at one shelter, go to a shelter in the next county over. Dogs and cats come in everyday in every shelter across the country. If you have looked at shelters and aren't finding a pet then look at a rescues; rescues pull from shelters so you are saving lives either way. If you want a purebred, check shelters first then look at a breed specific rescues. Here is a link to the shelters adoption gallery: https://pets.wakegov.com/gallery2. Donate your time - Volunteering is a great free way to make a huge difference for the animals. Volunteers do lots of things like walking the dogs, cuddling the cats, folding laundry, photographing animals, and much more . All these things help make the animals stay better and increases their chance at adoption. If you physically or emotionally can't volunteer directly with the animals you can still volunteer and help by working with groups to do things like manning a tent at an adoption event/ education event. Creating flyers or brochures, website maintenance, and much more.3. Foster - Being a foster parent means you provide a temporary home for a pet. The shelter or rescue provides all the supplies, food, and medical care, you provide the stable environment. Fostering is also a great way for those who don't want the 10 year responsibility of a pet, full-time responsibility of a pet, or who may not be able to afford a pet, to be able to make a difference.4. ❗️❗️Happy Tails Update❗️❗️. Roc has left the house! That’s right, he was adopted! ♥️😊

Dogs are a long term commitment. This boy may lose his life because his “family” sucks and turned him in when they had a baby. Would they turn in their baby if they had another?! Dogs are family. Period. End of story. I’d like to watch the karma bus as it barrels toward this family. 🤬🤬 #Repost @petmanianc with @get_repost

📢 Please help! 📢 Wake County Shelter is full again and this handsome boy named Roc is going to be euthanized. 😔 He is a 2 year old neutered male, up to date on shots and vaccines and hes a great listener! He was adopted at 8 weeks old and when his family had a baby and built a new house, they decided Roc was too much work to keep around. 😭 If you can open up your heart and home to Roc, youd literally be saving his life today 🐶💕 #adoptdontshop #raleigh #fureverhomeneeded #fosterhomeneeded

Our people have met him and say he is AMAZING. We're trying hard to find him a foster! Holidays are so tough on shelters.

Wally has been with us for a while and we don’t know why. He loves all people (including children), dogs and is even good with cats. His foster family has a lot of experience fostering and reports what a pleasure he is to have at home and that he is an absolute gem! He enjoys walks and runs and down time relaxing in his loving home getting tummy rubs. 🐾

Luke LITERALLY grew up in the Augusta Shelter. We then flew him to Seattle where Dog Gone Seattle in hopes of finding a family of his own. STILL NOTHING 💔. Talk about a diamond in the rough! Luke knows his basic commands, is housebroken and is the biggest cuddle bug ever. Although he plays rough (remember, hes only about 1 year old) he responds quickly when hes told to tone it down. PLEASE help us find this boy a perfect family that he can spend Christmas and the rest of his life with. We dont understand WHY he is SO OVERLOOKED!

The shelter has started to include more training and enrichment into their daily routine, and Kayden is doing much better on the leash and he smiles all the time. He loves meeting new people. He would be a great companion for someone who likes running, hiking or other high energy adventures. He is a very quick learner and super treat motivated, picking up sit and heel quickly. He would need matched to a canine friend compatible with his big personality. He is not recommended for very young children only due to his energy and strength.

For more info, head to http://calhouncountyhs.blogspot.com or email calhouncountyhumane@gmail.com. The shelter is located in Anniston, but they consider applications from out of state (East side of Alabama only) and Canada.

NEW YORK: Look how fun and loving DJ is! At 9 years old, this senior beauty has had a disappointing past. He is now in the care of @AnimalHaven and cannot wait to rest with his new humans. He is great with kids and animals, and its really sad that its taking so long for him to find a home! DJ grew up in San Diego, CA and then moved to NYC in 2011 with his person. DJ wasnt great at walking on a leash, and lived in a small apartment, so his mom realized it wasnt a good situation for both of them. She found DJ a new home with a family in Brooklyn, and a backyard, just like he was used to in California. Unfortunately, 5 years later, this past May, that family abandoned DJ by tying him to a pole in Brooklyn. Luckily, DJ was still microchipped and since his original owner never changed the contact info on the chip, they were reunited. Sadly, she still cant keep him, she travels a lot and has a small apartment, so she brought DJ to Animal Haven hoping they can find him the perfect match. DJ is wonderful, laid back, and gets along with people, kids and other animals. Apply for him via www.AnimalHavenShelter.org.

Happy Friday from Daisy! 🌼 This dollop has been looking for an adopter for 2.5 years, and we hope you will help us get the word out by tagging friends! • Repost @halfwayhounds :: Daisy is our longest rescue resident. She has been with Halfway Hounds since April 2016. We are desperately searching for a foster or forever home for our sweet girl.
Daisy is an itty bitty Pittie/Lab mix, 4 years old, who needs a home where she can decompress. While Daisy gets along with other dogs, she would prefer to be the only pet in the home. In a patient, calm home she will flourish and you will be rewarded with a lifetime of love, loyalty and wet kisses! • Email us at info@fosterdogsnyc.com to start the convo! • #overlookedblackdogs #fosterdogs #doadollopofdaisy

HAR adoptable, Petey, thought it would be a good idea to enter himself into a few classified ads. Here’s what he had to say about himself : *****Classifieds*****
Well-mannered southern gentleman ISO (in search of)
responsible loving companion(s). Must have a well stocked pantry of kibble and treats. Just so you know, I can share your affections with other pups if need be, but the kiddos are too much for me to tolerate. My favorite pleasures include walks around the manor and cuddles on the settee. I claim a clean bill of health but I do require a little eye spray daily for my dry eyes. If you think we might connect, send me your application and I will respond accordingly.
Respectfully,
Petey

He is such a sweet, energetic smart boy. If you are looking to add a playmate for your current dog or adopting a dog for the first time Marshall would be a good fit:
At almost 8 months old he is potty trained, crate trained and walks good on a leash. Marshall would do best in a house with an active family that likes to play and go for walks. Marshall would also excel in further training through an approved teen puppy class. Photo credit: Sarica Feng

This baby didn’t make it. 😔 She fought hard and showed improvement but her body was tired from the horrific abuse she suffered. If you see any animal being abused, report it, speak up and be their voice, do something about it. You can’t tell me no one saw this dog deteriorating. People turned a blind eye and now a life is lost because of it. I know this happens everyday and we are not always aware of it. If people just spoke up and were a voice for the voiceless, then maybe we’d see less of this. And, IF North Carolina had decent animal cruelty laws in place, maybe, just maybe, someone would have been punished for what they did to this girl. I will never understand this level of cruelty nor the human who inflicts on a defenseless animal. 🤬If you are able, please donate to Misplaced Mutts. They are doing great things! The day a few of us went to the shelter to take pictures, we were introduced to a cruelty case involving several dogs. Our foster had recently adopted out her last foster dog and had an opening. As soon as she saw the condition of this girl, without question she said, “I’m taking her.” She soon will announce the name she has chosen. She also left with her sister (who is also in poor shape physically) and her other sister who is shy and nervous but is otherwise healthy. We will post lots of pictures. You can’t readily see the improvements on this baby. However, they are happening. When she first came home she would fall after a few steps. Now she walks the yard for a few minutes and will even pick up toys to play for a few minutes before she needs to rest. Dog’s in this condition require several small meals throughout the day as well as plenty of rest. They have no body fat so they get cold easily. The cruelty these dogs suffered was unimaginable. Yet they remain so loving, so gentle, so grateful. Won’t you follow their journey toward recovery? Until they find that someone who will be their family and love them unconditionally? We know we can find families for them. But first some healing will have to take place. Thank you for helping us help dogs like this. Because we literally could not walk away. ... See MoreSee Less

I hope the ones that did this r going to b arrested if found. RIP little one so sorry this happened to you.

It is time the law was changed if you hurt an animal the same should be done to the so called human. I would do it to them with great pleasure.

THIS! All of this! #Repost @theunforgottensouls ・・・Imagine if this was your view. Day in and day out people would come by and stand in front of your cage and stare at you. They would tell you to sshhh if you barked. They would laugh if you ran around frantically. Some would cry if you looked sad. Imagine people reading the info on your cage and just moving on. Imagine being on display like furniture in a store front. Can you imagine? Dogs that are in a shelter cage can feel scared and vulnerable. They often times are anxious and depressed. When looking for a forever family member please take all of this into consideration. Spend time with the dogs outside of their cages. Choose based on your time together...not on what you see through those bars. Shelter life is not real life. Cages can make the gentlest soul appear "crazy" or "aggressive" simply because he/she is scared. When visiting a shelter or a pound please be aware of the broken hearts in those cages. Show them respect. If a particular dog acts up when you are in front of his cage please move on. He/She doesn't want to be on display and has no where to hide. Teach your children not to taunt the dogs by running or jumping around. This always leads to more chaos and stress for all. Shelter dogs had families at one time just like you and I. Each of them has had their life turned upside down through no fault of their own. Imagine being let down by humans over and over. Put yourself in their place. She was also never spayed and needed a dental cleaning. Susie's Senior Dogs sponsored her surgery and she has recovered very well. Hope is a very sweet and loving girl who has lots of stories to tell. She is especially talkative at dinner time, she gets so excited for her nommies, and now she can eat without interference from that awful mass. Hope gets along with dogs of all ages and sizes and she just loves people. She loves to snuggle and often falls asleep at events while curled up on one of our volunteers' laps. We aren't sure how she is with cats since she has not been exposed to any while in our care. Hope does have some ongoing medical issues. He oral mass was determined to be a low-grade cancer and without removing part of her jaw it could not be completely removed so her new family would need to keep an eye and have her checked annually for regrowth of the mass. When her front two fang teeth were removed the infection was so severe that it did cause oral nasal fistulas but this also has not had any impact on her ability to eat or her health. If you are interested in giving this sweet nugget the retirement home she deserves we ask that an application is submitted and once it is approved we will set up a home visit. Transport can also be arranged depending on adopters location, but this can take time. Hope would make a wonderful addition to any home." Homeless pigs are everywhere you look. Shelters & Sanctuaries are full with unwanted pet pigs while breeders continue to produce more animals. This little piglet is in Harnett County Animal Control awaiting the State mandated auction.
NO breeding can be considered responsible while homeless pigs have nowhere to go.
Please be responsible, spay & neuter your pet pigs. Please consider adopting a rescued pig rather than supporting a greedy business. There are just not enough rescue groups to take all these discarded, abandoned & surrendered pigs.
BSAS currently cares for over 40 pigs & we get pleas daily. This madness has got to stop.

#enddogfighting #Repost @sophiegamand ・・・JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA: Rachel was rescued from a large dogfighting operation in Canada and was later transferred to the National Canine Center in Florida (@DogsPlayingforLife) where she spent 1 year being retrained and assessed. She’s now been cleared for adoption and was transferred to @jaxhumane. Rachel is a beauty and a joy to be around. Both smart and gentle, she is a great learner. She is friendly with people and generally happy go lucky. She was a staff favorite at DPFL. Initially, she was very worried about being touched, but now she has discovered the joys of massages... Rachel has never lived in a home and when placed in a real-life-room with a person, she struggled to settle, just worried about what all that was about. But I have no doubt that she will learn in no time that home is where the love, safety and comfort are. She will need a patient adopter who understands and respects her past and boundaries. Just like many dogs from dogfighting backgrounds, Rachel can be anxious around other dogs, assuming the worst from them. It’s really the most heartbreaking part of this cruel practice, the fact that humans teach these dogs not to trust each other. Thankfully, during her retraining time, Rachel has learned that she doesn’t need to keep her guard up with other dogs, and now she can be appropriate and even playful with some dogs (although she prefers males). She is labeled as dog selective and should be the only dog at home (at least for now). Rachel is missing a toe and some teeth and her jaw clicks when she is excited. She is very athletic and loves enrichment activities, hanging out with a Kong, puzzles, scent enrichment, field trips, relaxation session, etc. She has nailed tons of commands, door routine (sit/eye contact for open door) and is ok in a crate although will need more crate acclimation at home. After three years waiting patiently in a kennel, working hard at trusting again, she cannot wait to meet you and choose you as her person! Please consider her and help spread the word.
