NEW YORK: Look how fun and loving DJ is! At 9 years old, this senior beauty has had a disappointing past. He is now in the care of @AnimalHaven and cannot wait to rest with his new humans. He is great with kids and animals, and its really sad that its taking so long for him to find a home! DJ grew up in San Diego, CA and then moved to NYC in 2011 with his person. DJ wasnt great at walking on a leash, and lived in a small apartment, so his mom realized it wasnt a good situation for both of them. She found DJ a new home with a family in Brooklyn, and a backyard, just like he was used to in California. Unfortunately, 5 years later, this past May, that family abandoned DJ by tying him to a pole in Brooklyn. Luckily, DJ was still microchipped and since his original owner never changed the contact info on the chip, they were reunited. Sadly, she still cant keep him, she travels a lot and has a small apartment, so she brought DJ to Animal Haven hoping they can find him the perfect match. DJ is wonderful, laid back, and gets along with people, kids and other animals. Apply for him via www.AnimalHavenShelter.org.

And he would prefer to live in a home with other low-key dogs like himself, or he'd be fine on his own. He's not fussy, he just wants out of the shelter. Can we try again for handsome Titus? Titus was picked up by animal services this summer when his owner passed away. He's definitely a mutt of mutts (with the most adorable smile!) and we've been calling him our boxer/retriever/shar-pei mix. Two of our volunteers take Titus out on the town weekly to the park and places with people and when they go to pick him up, he happy cries and is ready for adventure. He recognized these volunteers after just two outings with them and looks forward each week to getting out for some extra fun. And when he does, he is great in the car and sits in the back very well and loves to sniff the air. He’s also very good on a leash – he doesn’t pull and he walks at a nice pace. Titus is very sweet and gentle (and LOVES!) when people approach him to pet him. We've found that Titus prefers calmer dogs or to be an only pet. He recently did a meet-and-greet with older dogs and Titus was very comfortable and at ease being around these calm dogs (there was no jumping or rough playing). He loves people watching, enjoying the outdoors, getting petted and giving kisses. Titus seems to love everyone, but we wouldn't place him with super young kids due to his age. She is a darling 12 year old senior #MiniaturePinscher searching for her new beginning. This sweet girl was surrendered to our local animal control with a huge mass attached to her lower jaw. She was also never spayed and needed a dental cleaning. Susie's Senior Dogs sponsored her surgery and she has recovered very well. Hope is a very sweet and loving girl who has lots of stories to tell. She is especially talkative at dinner time, she gets so excited for her nommies, and now she can eat without interference from that awful mass. Hope gets along with dogs of all ages and sizes and she just loves people. She loves to snuggle and often falls asleep at events while curled up on one of our volunteers' laps. We aren't sure how she is with cats since she has not been exposed to any while in our care. Hope does have some ongoing medical issues. He oral mass was determined to be a low-grade cancer and without removing part of her jaw it could not be completely removed so her new family would need to keep an eye and have her checked annually for regrowth of the mass. When her front two fang teeth were removed the infection was so severe that it did cause oral nasal fistulas but this also has not had any impact on her ability to eat or her health. If you are interested in giving this sweet nugget the retirement home she deserves we ask that an application is submitted and once it is approved we will set up a home visit. Transport can also be arranged depending on adopters location, but this can take time. Hope would make a wonderful addition to any home."
